IBM is happy to once again take an active role in GlobalPlatform. IBM was a charter member of OpenPlatform, which later became GlobalPlatform. We have also been on the Board of Directors of GlobalPlatform in the past. As not only more smart card based solutions are being deployed but also Near Field Communications solutions, IBM feels the role of GlobalPlatform is much more important in regulating the back-end technical standards around these smart chip solutions.
